Earth Hour.

We participated in Earth Hour last night - the boys took a bath, got ready for bed, and had a bedtime story - all by candlelight.

We moved the hour earlier here, so that the boys would be awake for it. We started with a craft - we rolled beeswax candles by hand, and placed them in glass canning jars. As we rolled the candles, we chatted a bit about what were were doing and why. All of the candles we used are candles we have made or decorated over the past several months. Poured candles, dipped candles, beeswax votives decorated with punched beeswax shapes, tapers covered in beeswax stars. The warmth and smell was wonderful, and the boys got to see all of their candles lit at once throughout the bathroom and bedrooms. It was a magical hour, and today A asked if we could have Earth Hour every day. Not a bad idea!

I just found you through the Crafty Crow. We did Earth Hour too and commented how it would be a good addition on a more regular basis.

What a gorgeous candlelight photo. My kids want to do Earth Hour more often also. I love how all the candles you used were made or decorated by your boys.

How warm it looks.
You are a talented photographer.

We did not celebrate Earth Hour. N. was camping with the scouts. We did light a braided candle to say good-bye to the Sabbath, though. Then we went outside to look at the stars--but that is a typical Saturday night activity for us.

By the way, the spring nature notebooks below looked so happy and springlike, I had a moment of joy just seeing them. This has been a long winter.

By the way

I had not hear about Earth Hour.

I could see gathering around an outdoor bonfire and eating food cooked over the coals, playing music and singing and taking a soak in a wood fired-hottub and then sleeping under the stars...

Wasn't it nice to just slow down, and be still in the candlelight?? Our Earth Hour was very introspective and quiet too. The candles are so pretty- glad you enjoyed it!!

We were driving home from being out of town and didn't celebrate Earth Hour. Well, does it count if your just using the lights to drive in the darkness? Hmmmm. Probably not what was intended. We'll have to do it on our own this week. The kids love it when we use candles. Your photo is lovely! I loved the "caged" candles :)

I first saw Earth Hour on your blog. Thanks, Denise! We had a really nice hour of candlelight too. In fact, we went to bed right after it because we didn't want to turn on the lights at all. I think we should all live by candlelight more often. So peaceful...
