From hot to snow.

I can't believe it is already Monday night! Last week we had several days of weather getting warmer and warmer until peaking at 74º and sunny on Saturday. The boys were so happy - they rode bikes, played basketball and soccer in the yard, made up funny games, helped me dig and rake the beds, and played with all the neighbor kids in our busy family friendly alley. We even had a mini bonfire in our yard on a warm weekend night, and made s'mores with all of the neighbor kids.

In the garden we hardened spring seedlings and planted out all of the early spring plantings - peas, early cabbage, greens, radishes, kale, and more. So much garden work, all with the help of my sweet husband - the weather was just right for it all. On Saturday we visited an Earth Day Celebration to pick up our new humongous rain barrel (yay!) to add to our side yard.

And then Sunday came - full of cold and rain. We finished some yard work and headed down to visit a Natural History Museum in Illinois. Dinosaurs, rocks, wigwams, and a great kids room. Just what we needed to enjoy the day.

Today? More cold and rain and a lot of fun indoor play and books to read. Tonight and tomorrow? Snow! We are good with it, though. After a long cold winter we can't take on the full force heat and sun right away - it is too much (and I'm one tired mama after all that planting and garden clean-up!). We need some up and down, some cold rainy days. That is how we start to get that green grass, those vibrant green buds, and what brings our trees a burst of spring foliage. So, tomorrow? Some new fun projects inside, a big stack of new books from the library, and some baking (G wants to make cinnamon rolls). Sounds perfect.

We're right there with ya! 5 days ago it was 40 degrees cooler than today! It's wonky but I was happy it cooled down. This 90 degree stuff is not cool. I think we're suppose to have another cold front come thru. I don't know when to yank my broccoli and plant my tomatoes though!

Looks like you guys are having fun regardless. :)

It's your turn, now, eh? lol

It's all good, though, like you said. A necessary part of the earth's birthing process in our latitude and longitude.

Yay for In The Garden!!
That must mean you're feeling quite the thing, then. So glad to hear it!

I love the warm days, too, of course - but you're right... can't go from winter to summer! :) Need a few Inside days, too!

We've been experiencing the same type of weather too! Sounds like you guys have been making the most of it both outdoors & in. We too just dusted off our firepit which looks a lot like yours.
Peace.

I covet your rain barrel. That's a definite addition to our system this year.

Our long stretch of dry , warm weather has been replaced with rain but I'm not sure I could roll with the snow you have coming your way. You are to be commended for putting it in perspective :0)

Wow, 70s to snow, that's pretty crazy. I'm glad you're getting a break after your busy weekend. I'll bet the boys had a blast with all that outside time. How's your back holding up with all the planting?

I agree with needing the down time. When it's sunny and warm I feel like I need to be in the garden-I love it but it's hard work! The cool, rainy weather forces me to take a break. Mother Nature taking care of her children!

Yep, the back is feeling a bit better! Nowhere near 100%, but I'm able to move and bend more every day. Yay! Definitely still being careful and trying not to 'over do' it and my husband is helping with all the lifting and bending while I do the crawling around and raking. He he. I have my MRI this week...not looking forward to that, but it will be done!!!!! :)
