May Faire.
Today we visited the May Faire at a local (ish) Waldorf school. We like to attend many public events at this school - they are well run, it is a beautiful place, and everyone is super friendly. Today was a great day to be outside - nice and cool. The boys played and wandered and explored for hours. There were animals to visit(goats, lamb, rabbits, guinea pig), a fairy glen, musicians, games, crafts, food, and big open spaces to run and play in. And, of course, the May Pole with a May Queen, dancers, and an orchestra of students.
For G, the big hit was the cookie table (!), a wooden "pirate tower", sandbox, and play area.
For A, he loved the animals, the May Queen (!), and one special ride. The Flying Fox. We didn't know at first if he would do it.
Well, he did. Fearlessly.
Several times. Look at that smile. It was high and fast - he LOVED it and didn't want to leave!
We hadn't realized that A was watching the May Queen - but when he bolted into the cake walk to talk to her, we realized he wanted to be introduced. She was a sweet girl (one of the students), and spoke with him a few minutes. He was so happy - he asked about her dress, her crown of flowers, and said "I've never met a real May Queen before!" She curtsied and said "Well, nice to meet you", and my sweet, sweet, 5 year old did the deepest bow he could, and replied "Pleased to meet you too." (heart wrench!!!)
Before leaving we visited a few vendors who were also moms from the school. One had hand made soap from her goats milk - the boys LOVE good soap, so we selected several. The other mom had beeswax and honey from her farm, and of course we couldn't pass that up. We now have several pounds of beeswax. Ah, it smells SO good. I can just put a big block under my pillow, right?
What a fun day!

What a wonderful faire! My son and I would have loved it!!! The beeswax and soap are just one of those wonderful little joys of life...I love the smell too.
Your boys must of had an awesome time. A's face on the flying fox is priceless and the bow to the queen, so cute!
I so love Waldorf. What a great faire that must have been. It's Victoria Day here next weekend and there's a big May Pole festival near town. Can't wait.

Fun!
Our school May Fair is on Thursday afternoon. I've got strawberries to prepare for 150 shortcakes! I'm glad your boys had so much fun!
Were there any activities there that older kids seemed engaged in? We have a bit of trouble engaging the older kids. We're having a "circus arts" area that may help, but I wish we could come up with more for them. I'm always looking for ideas!
This all looks like so much fun. I love the soaps...so pretty. I was able to buy some handmade soap from a Waldorf mom this weekend also at our Farmer's market. She is the first Waldorf mom I have met in my area- I was so excited!
OH boy The Flying Fox looks like way too much fun!
And I can smell that beeswax from here.
I love the smell of beewax too!
I can't believe he rode the Flying Fox!! Good for him. ;)
And the story of meeting the May Queen is great!

Oh, to meet a real May Queen...what fun and the sweet bow too!!! What a great story and look at your beautiful day, Thank You!
That's our school! I wish I would have known you were there, I love your blog. My 4 1/2 year old was determined to try the flying fox last year (and I thought NO WAY!) Well he did it 5 times, and this year, as soon as the trees had flowers on them, he said wistfully, "Remeber the flying fox?" Of course, it was the first thing we lined up for after the May Pole!
You'll have to let us know next time you are coming out to PHWS, I'd love to have the boys meet!
How sweet! The May Queen meeting. I 'm sorry its been so long since I've visited. Blessings.

I feel as though I live on the other end of the Earth where fairs and homemade goods are not in reach. I want that here so bad!
mamalyssa...
I don't see an email on your profile, so I am replying here. :) Yes, the Flying Fox was very popular. Once he discovered it, it was VERY hard to get my 5 year old to come with us to do something else or eat or... he loved it. I would love to meet the next time we visit an event there. Feel free to email me too! :)
