The boys have been wanting to paint their wooden picnic table, so we headed to the hardware store and they picked out their colors and had them added to their paints. They chose a nice red for the legs/seat, and chocolate chalkboard paint for the top.
We prepped everything when we got home, and the three of us got to work painting painting painting. We let it dry and then of course they had to test the chalkboard top immediately and scribbled all over it with chalk and then rinsed it off --- perfect!
It looks so nice - they are very thrilled with the result of their choices and hard work! :) Sweet!

What a GREAT IDEA..They did a wonderful job!!
It looks great! We have a similar table that we never got to paint, and is now crumbling away after ten years of exposure to the elements! Well done boys!
Amazing job painting the table - they appear to have remained relatively clean!!
The fact that it has a chalkboard top is brilliant :0)
that is a great picnic table! love the colors!
Tara - funny enough, I had MUCH more paint on me than they did...I was the one who crawled around getting into the nooks and crannies. ;)
Thanks everyone. The chalkboard top was a great idea, and I think it will keep the top from being chipped or look worn since it is dark and a harder surface, and they can draw all over it which is fun.
I think chalkboard paint is one of my most favorite cheap tricks!
Love that red picnic table! So cheerful and happy! Where did you find chalkboard paint that wasn't black?
Astrid - We found the chalkboard paint at Menards...there are about 9 colors to choose from!
