clay!
For this fall, the boys wanted to try some new classes/activities. Of course the challenge is that asthma boy is not supposed to be in crowds of kids during cold/flu season, and we have to be *really* careful (not to mention that my other sensory boy can't do loud/crowded anyway).
One of the activities the boys have wanted to do is clay/pottery. We found an awesome local studio that has open studio hours during the week days and we can go whenever we want to and not worry so much about crowds of kids and loud and too much and viruses. PERFECT.
We went to our first open clay studio last week and the got familiar with the setup and how things work. Both boys really enjoyed themselves, and we will definitely be going all winter. We even hope to have a private lesson so they can learn the wheel! Fun!
And the bonus is this mama can participate too - love it.
so hard to balance those needs but it sounds like you found something ideal! i'd love to do that with quinn in a couple years... your banner photo is gorgeous- i think it is different than last time i clicked over. have a beautiful day! :)
ReplyDeleteI threw pots for a few years. I loved it. I still have a lot of clay and Isaac has expressed interest in building with clay. It is so much fun to get messy...and boy, do you get messy. :) Sounds like a great activity for the winter. xo
ReplyDeleteWe do so much air dry clay here - jewelry, garden markers, bowls, trays...we've been wanting to do an actual pottery studio where we can start getting our work FIRED!!! I'm so excited that they want to do this as I love it too. Yay! :)
ReplyDeletePottery was one of my favorites as a kid and I've really wanted to get Alder involved. The art museum has an exhibit right now where we got to experiment and make some stuff, air dried of course. I think I'll look and see what I can find. I think the mess is part of the joy of it.
ReplyDeleteYay! Sylvia is going to try this out Thur am. I think the only way I'd be able to play with the clay too is if Ayla sleeps in her back pack. I love that it is a drop-in studio and there is no commitment to a weekly class. I'm glad your boys enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteOh wonderful, nothing beats working with real clay... and even better to be in a studio so that you can get it fired!!! Enjoy it, I am sure you will!!!
ReplyDeletethat sounds ideal. i wish we had something similar close to us. enjoy your studio time:)
ReplyDeleteI wish we had something like that here too! That looks like so much fun!!
ReplyDeletewhat a perfect find! this is the sort of thing i will miss not having available.
ReplyDeletepottery is so much fun. how great that you get to do it too.
p.s, i used dreamweaver for my pre-blog journal as well! lol
how wonderful! learning to throw pots (and all the rest) will be great for you all.
ReplyDeleteOh good! I'm glad you are going! We love our pottery studio and even though the kids aren't currently in a class, we might get some open studio time in, too. That's perfect for you all.
