sky view.

I have a fear of heights. Ever since I was a child - palms sweat, world spins, can't breathe. I have gotten through it OK for years by either avoidance or confronting it head on (which didn't conquer it but I didn't die ;)) - but certain types of things are really tough, like edges and open air hanging things.

Today my boys decided that they wanted to try an aerial tram ride. This isn't like the ski lifts I have ridden in New Mexico and Colorado - sort of high and above grass or snow. This was very high and above concrete. And on a little piddly lift (of course I was the only one who thought that, since it freaked me out), not the big deluxe ski resort kind. But if I hope for my boys to try new things and experiences and feel comfortable confronting their fears, then I should too, right?

A rode with Brice and G was with me. My death grip on him and the bar made it tough to take photos (!) but I got a few in. Of course he was oblivious to my suffering and was perfectly happy after the first few minutes of nervous and enjoyed the ride - yelling over to his dad and brother and watching the ants, I mean people pass below - he even pranced off when we were done.

Oh, the things we do for love.

(oh my, I am woozy even looking at the photos again!)

  1. I admire you, I'm not sure I would have done it myself, I'm the biggest coward when it comes to heights!

  2. I am right there with you! Completely afraid of heights! I, too, want my girls to experience things and NOT share my fear, so I try to put up a brave face. Some times I do better than others! I did the skyride at Great Adventure with no problem, but had a very embarrassing moment at the Statue of Liberty (my kids actually ended up thinking it was cool that they let us whisk down in the elevator as opposed to having to take the stairs back DOWN!

  7. Tara - You are lucky! ;) With two boys, I get one he gets the other for rides that require 'chaperone'. Whew!

Chris - Oh yes, I have a very hard time on ferris wheels. We did one last summer. Ouch. I try not to do any rides when we visit MOA...when my husband is in his conference boys ride single kid rides, at night we go back for 'with dad' rides...although they did talk me into that log water ride last fall! Too funny. ;)

    justyana - Milwaukee Zoo!

Theresa - I've had a 'moment' like that ages ago in the St. Louis arch where you are supposed to lay down on this little wall and look down/out the windows. Oh my. I am OK for a few minutes in places like the Sears Tower as long as I'm not at the edge and it isn't windy (the building sways) - but the clear floor glass sticking out room way up there now? Oh, nooooooooo.

And everyone else - Nice to know I'm not the only one!

  8. Great pictures and I am glad you faced your fear head on. I do not have a fear of heights but my mom does.

I remember when I was little and we went down a giant slide and she screamed at the top of her lungs the whole way down like she was being murdered.

I still tease her about it. lol.
