Fall...

Fall weekends always seem to be the busiest. This is the time of year for hayrides, farm tours, apple picking and soon pumpkin picking. We stopped by a farm to pickup apples and cider to make apple butter, apple syrup and other fall goodies. We visit a few farms a week for regularly scheduled pickups, so the boys were ho-hum at first, until they remembered that there is something extra special this time of year...hay rides!

And they remembered the great climbing tree...just over beyond the pumpkins.

With all kinds of little nooks and footholds to sit up there.

And while they were not too interested in picking the apples (too busy climbing tree, mom) they of course loved cranking our peeler/corer when we made apple butter. Fall is here!

  3. Thanks Denise, you put me in the mood. We are still waiting for our leaves to start to turn. It's been HOT here, though with a big front coming in off the ocean and rain expected, the nights are now cold enough to warrant a fire and thoughts of fall.

I LOVE your new profile picture! You look so sophisticated and beautiful. And I always love reading your book lists.

  6. We just went apple picking too- in Gays Mills. My girls had a blast picking...I much rather prefer picking the apples myself than buying them prepicked. Now I've got lots of apples to process!

  7. That last photo is so cool, at first I thought it was smoke rising out of the apple, but is it the peel. I could use some good apple peeling boys over here! Happy Autumn!

We are gearing into spring and loving all the flowers opening up and the days getting slightly longer... and then I see your beautiful fall and I wish time would fly so we could have a bit of your glorious color!!!

  12. Astrid - I've been trying to space out the apples this year. Last year was just c.r.a.z.y. So, I've been trying to get 10-15# here, 10-15# there. ;)

Dawn & Lizz - Thank you!!! I just had my hair all cut off on Friday and I am loving having it so much shorter.

I'll post the apple butter recipe soon. I have the recipe on my food blog I used last year, but tried a version using apple cider vinegar this year...wanted to chill & eat a bit before deciding how much I liked it!

  16. My kids love the apple peeler too:) They also love helping with the applesauce by cranking the handle on the mill.

Oohh! Apple syrup? We might have to add that to our list of things we're making from our many apples.
