Pumpkin picking season is upon us! We visited our first pumpkin patch to pick up a few dozen small pie pumpkins. We like to bake them, make the puree, and then freeze or refrigerate it to use instead of canned pumpkin for all of our fall and holiday baking. We also save some in cool dark storage in the basement to use later.
The boys like visiting all of the different pumpkin patches - some have animals, some have corn mazes, most have hayrides, and many have haunted barns. Ooooooh. When you are 3 and 5, it doesn't take much to make a dark barn spooky!
The boys also picked up a few bigger pumpkins to use as seasonal decor outside around the house - and will also carve them in a few weeks.
It is fun to get out to a farm, wander on a cool sunny day, and look at things. Of course, pulling wagons around is pretty fun too.
oh you guys make it look exciting like its fall!!! yippe. We do our first one Saturday. I hope we get some sort of cooler weather its still 80's. It would be nice to pretend. The pics are sooo cute.

It doesn't matter how old my daughter is, we still enjoy our trips to the apple orchard and pumpkin patch. :)

ReplyDeleteOur little homeschool group is visiting a pumpkin patch in 2 weeks- i can't wait! The pumpkin patch we are going to is new this year-- it's rooted in sustainability and has all kinds of educational stations set up for the children to participate in. And of course a hayride, picnic lunch, scarecrow building, and pumpkin buying! Oh yeah and since we are a "school" group, we get a significant discount!

oh how i love the pumpkins...we are in need of a trip to our local pumpkin patch...love all that orange!
ReplyDeleteOh Fun! We will be heading to our local (well an hour away but favorite) pumpkin patch on Sunday. We will be arriving promptly at 10am before all the crowds!

I have been searching for a pumpkin patch place up in the Valley area and there are NONE! Despite the fact that people grow 1000 pound pumpkins for the state fair! I SO want the kids to experience that. Maybe we'll just have to grow our own?
