Easy Green Living.

There have been so many "green" books to come out this year - which is great, because the more information out there, the better for all of us. I have been reading through every new book that is available through my library system just to see what is out there. I plan to post my favorites as I read through the pile! Here is my favorite this week:

Easy Green Living: The Ultimate Guide to Simple, Eco-Friendly Choices for You and Your Home by Renee Loux

This book is great in that it is easy to read yet very thorough. She focuses mostly on the home and body - products such as cleaning, laundry, body, cosmetics, fabrics, etc. With ingredient information, what to look out for, products available off the shelf, and recipes for home made cleaning and body products (and much more), it covers a lot. I also like the information in the back about home improvement products such as eco-friendly paint, flooring, shelving, counters and more.

There is SO much info in this book, but it is broken into logical sections and pieces, making it easy to read and easy to flip through to reference products, information or recipes. While I already make many of our home cleaning products, I immediately used a few "recipes" from this book such as the basic soda fizz toilet scrub and ceramic stove cleaner, and I plan to try many more, including the clean hand/sanitizer spritz and the produce wash!

  5. maymomvt - I read that book too - and I have it in my pile again to re-visit with all the new books. I liked it a lot too.

Claudia - I don't read it well. I had an Italian class in college and sang some Italian Opera in that time too - and then over the years have tried to improve using language CDs and books and watching films ... I love the language - so beautiful. Of course I also love the art, literature and film which is what motivates me to learn - but I am FAR from fluent! :)

I for one shouldn't be saying this, but doesn't the volume of printed books on being green seem, well, a little brown?

  10. It must be catching.

I just picked up "The Natural House" and "The Homeowners Guide to Renewable Energy."

If I ever get time to read again.
