Well, it is official. This is the snowiest winter in Madison's history (well, since the 1880's when they started tracking). And it is only mid-February!Today we had more snow, which put us well over the previous record of 76.1 inches set in 1978-79 (we are at 79.2", with more snow coming tomorrow).
I love winter, but I think I'm a bit tired of shoveling!
(Oh, and the photo? That is the Utica-Nora SnowCat, a snowmobiling trail groomer. We see it in action most weeks when we pick up our eggs! They boys love watching it.)
We just saw one of these machines today...I don't know how much snow we have had this winter, but it must be a lot...as this machine was making wide tracks next to the Parks Hwy...we heard they do this not so snowmachiners have a trail or dogmushers have a trail, but to give the moose a packed down trail...I guess to keep them from coming out onto the highway...interesting, huh?

ReplyDeleteThat is one heck of a machine! I've never seen such a thing. I hate shoveling too. I keep telling my husband we need a snow blower or a plow. But we don't get as much snow as you do!

ReplyDeleteOkay, usually your posts make me terribly homesick. But at this point while I congratulate Madison on their wonderful record breaking snow, I'll have to pass. Today we've got rain, rain, rain. Blah.

My husband grew up in Madison. I'm going to show him this post. It might make him want to move back :)
