Blue & Ice.

Another Sunday at home. More crazy weather - such an unusual winter.

Luckily we knew this was coming, so we re-arranged our plans to visit the Model Railroad Show and get out for some errands on Saturday. We just happened to pass by one particular quilting shop while we were out - so I picked up a few things for some projects I have been wanting to start.

The bold blue in the swirl batik seems even more intense in this world of white. A welcome blast of spring color.

  1. I'm sure it's quite cold but that icy tree branch is incredibly beautiful. Have fun with you new projects.

  2. I didn't know you were a knitter! What can you not do, mrs. denise? I look forward to seeing what you do with that yummy yarn and those beautiful fabrics!

  3. Sally-
Oh, but I'm not. I have tried many times over the years but carpal tunnel was an issue, so I'm pretty basic. I'm also allergic to lanolin/wool. BUT I have been experimenting with alternative fibers and dyeing methods and have found some that don't give me hives (and some local sources), so I am determined to teach myself. :)

  5. Great batiks!

I thought you were getting ready to learn to knit. My best advice is to teach yourself through kid's books, such great explanation, pictures and simple projects. That is how I taught myself. It is in my blood as my grandmother was an amazing knitter and everything else (she was a Greek immigrant). My mother didn't do any domestics. So I've been on the self-guided tour.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions, I'm no expert, but I LOVE knitting.

There are so many great non-wool fibers around now, bamboo is especially lovely.

    And WOW winter!

  8. Well, at least you know how to cozy up and snuggle with some really great fabrics on a blue and icy day in an extraordinary Wisconsin winter.

And I am so glad you got to the train show before the ice storm! Ours usually happens in November. N. has been fascinated with it every year since he was in the stroller.

  9. I second what Lizz said. There are several really terrific kids' books out there. and the videos online are what taught me .... I am also a self-taught gal. Determiniation will get you far, but I bet you already knew that ;)
Would alpaca bother you? I have heard that it's less of a issue for some...I'm watching for those fibers to fly!
