almost made it.

We almost made it to the holidays without the early winter cold bug. But not quite. A came down with a cold over the weekend, and so we are in asthma boy damage control mode, hoping to keep G from being hit too hard. While I usually can keep myself from catching colds when they are in the house, G always gets them. And this week is just bad timing!

We finished most of our crafty making, so we can just focus on snuggles and healthy little boys. Lots of warm ginger elderberry lemonade, library books, and holiday DVDs, I think!

I have had a few goodies come in the mail just in time for a week at home, too. Seed catalogs (whole garden re-work going on this year) and yarn. Perfect combo.

We are looking forward to the lunar eclipse, several more inches of snow and a beautiful solstice!

What better time to be tucked in and resting with snow on the way :0)

I do hope your sweet boy stays well and free of any viruses!

Happy Solstice to you all.

Oh no, I hope he feels better soon and that he (and all of you) are spared the worse sort of attacks.

Look at all those handmade goodies! You're so good, Denise. xo

If you don't mind my asking.. where did you get your little round tins? I've been searching for some for salves and lotion bars.

I usually get them from Mountain Rose Herbs along with all of the other supplies (oils, salts, butters, essential oils, etc.). :)

When I am looking for *just* the tins, I order from here sometimes too!

Ginger elderberry lemonade? That sounds good! Do you have a recipe?

Hope everyone feels better soon! Hope you're enjoying the snow (if you haven't gotten the snow storm yet- JUST WAIT! We're in the middle of a snow storm in SW WI!)

Astrid - It is really easy. I grate a nice nub of ginger finely, and push liquid out through strainer into canning jar. Add elderberry syrup. Honey. Fresh squeezed lemons. Water. Stir. Tweak for your taste. I don't have exact measurements, but use how many squeezed lemons I have as a base and then add the rest to taste.

I keep a quart or half gallon canning jar at a time in the fridge. Warm it up for sore throats or after being outside playing in the cold. So good!

I also use store bought lemonade (not from concentrate) sometimes too, and just mix in the elderberry and ginger, with honey if needed.

I hope your little man is feeling better soon.Any bug can make asthma explode. Our middle one has had it since she was 3 but luckily only gets really sick if she has a bug, is upset or gets hurt.Hugs to everyone and may it dissapear as quickly as it came.

I hope that you and G will be able to stay healthy and that A will recover quickly.
Did you see the eclipse? What a great way to welcome the winter solstice!
I love that photo of the Nutcracker.

happy solstice and wishing you all health and vitality!

I hope your boys recover fast!

I am finally fighting a bug that went through all the boy-folk here, and I'm taking Kyolic garlic, extra Vit D and lots of Ester-C and Emergen-C. I forgot about lemon and ginger!

Wool and seed catalogues..sounds perfect :-)

Not sure if this has the same effect but I was inspired by your drink concoction to make my own tea- lingonberry syrup with grated ginger and lemon juice and maple syrup with hot water. It was tasty! Maybe next time I'll use honey (don't have any elderberry). :)

Hope the winter cold bug leaves soon! I'm interested in US seed catalogs, which one do you like better? I recently discovered Fedco, which I really like but, besides Johnny's seeds, I don't know of any others. I'll book mark the one in your photo. Happy Holidays!
