This weeks corner view is :: cityscapes. The challenge was to go to the highest place in your town and take a picture.
While my city is pretty small (200,000), it is very spread out. The downtown is on a very narrow isthmus flanked by student rental housing on one end, and the university campus on the other. The Capitol building is right in the center of that, and all buildings downtown must be shorter than the Capitol, so that it is always prominent. That makes for a pretty small downtown skyline! My husband and I moved here from urban Chicago and I have lived in a few big cities, so this downtown doesn't really seem urban to us. My neighborhood actually does have one of the highest points in my city, I believe, and so the view above is from our hill.
I thought about going downtown to get a photo from a high point there, but we like going downtown about as much as we like cleaning the garage, so my photos are from afar! The bottom image is the city skyline from a small boat launch/fishing spot just across the lake. Ahhhh.

I don't think I've ever seen a skyline picture of Madison before. I really like that second one.
Our hightest building is a church office building.... and it's illegal to build higher than It (and guess what it resembles?)... let me just tell you how I feel about that...
beautiful! thanks we are actually planning on taking a little road trip this summer up that way. :)
"...like going downtown about as much as we like cleaning the garage..." my sentiments exactly!!!! Love it!
Lisa :)
Very pretty. I laughed about your comment about going downtown!
Interesting. I didn't know that about the short buildings and the capitol having to be the tallest. Loved your quote too. ;)
Well, if you live on a hill you met the challenge very well then:)!
Great pictues, why go downtown when you can enjoy the view from afar.
Ha! Love these shots from afar! I'd love to be sitting in a kayak on that water!
Happy Day to you!
Beautiful view!!
Our downtown is so small I think if you blink- you will miss it. Hmmm... to get the highest point I think I would have to knock an apartment door. Neat I didn't realized you lived in Chicago. Thanks. xoxo
Thanks for sharing your corner view...j.
thanks for sharing your cityscape! I've always wanted to visit Madison; I've spent very little time in the midwest.
i like your downtown skyline. and how lucky are you to live so close to the lake? how´s the fishing? have a great day denise!:) besos!
i like your first picture very much. in the first moment i didn't saw the skyline...then i looked again. and yes it looks great.
Sea, sky and green areas. The good kind of city :) Interesting about the regulated skyline.
thanks for your comment and for sharing !I wish you a nice day !
your lake shot is exactly the view that my parents used to have when they lived on the lake. I miss it...big sigh! Thanks for sharing!
It's always fun to meet another creative mom! Love your cityscapes! Absolutely hysterical about cleaning the garage!
Best wishes from Morocco,
Tina

I'm surprised to hear you don't like going to downtown Madison.
I'm curious about why.
We live in Madison, too, and we love downtown Madison and go there all the time with our kids. There are so many neat things down there for kids.
Anonymous-- Well, I'm not a student or a tourist, so...ha ha!
I have lived in small, medium and large cities throughout the county and traveled a lot - and Madison just doesn't have much of a downtown for us. We are always disappointed, and it just isn't worth the hassle. There are many things we like about Madison, but downtown just isn't one of them. Just our opinion. I am sure there are people who disagree with us.
We prefer to travel to Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Appleton, Chicago, or dozens of other midwestern cities with terrific museums, embedded arts communities, decent transit systems, and a vibrant downtown to get our 'city fix'! :)
I see what you are saying. :) I like the downtowns of the cities you mentioned.
Madison could benefit from more museum, arts downtown, and we could definitely use a better transit system!
I still love downtown Madison, though.
But other downtowns have a bigger city feel with more amenities.
But our Farmer's Market is one of the best. :)
