What can I say.

It seems crazy to think of posting how my small beds of vegetables did in the storms when every county in southern Wisconsin is declaring a state of emergency, dams are failing, entire lakes are washing away and emptying into nothing , houses are floating down the river, local farmers have once again been hit, and every single county has so many roads washed out or impassible it is mind-boggling. (Yes, an entire lake is GONE. Really.) Very close to home, a farm we drive past several times a week which is just a few miles down the road has flooded - the boys always loved seeing all of the animals. Sad.

We are fine and dry here. I hope you all are too.

So for a ray of light, I give you Dover. That is one super trooper Dove. While winds were blowing at 40-50+mph, the gazebo was literally lifting up into the air (we had to go out and weigh it down even more with a full sandbox, metal table, and several chains), the rain was coming in sideways, and hail was pelting so hard it tore a hole in the fabric, that Dove sat there on those eggs. My boys were so proud (and worried!).

And after a few days of chatting to Dove, A can now do a perfect dove call. Whoo-Oooh, hooo, hoooooo, hooooo. Absolutely perfectly. One awesome kid.

We have lots of garden updates and dad crafts coming this week. After we dry off.

Yeah...wow!

I'm glad you are all well. I will continue to think of your family and all of the families in your area, farmers, wildlife...

Dover is an angel! Attachment parenting at it's finest, willing to risk all, holding tight. I'm truly touched.

I'm glad you are all safe.
How sweet of you to secure Dover's spot and bless her little heart for keepin' on in the midst of the storms.

Wow! That is wild weather indeed- I feel a bit out of touch right now- the news has escaped me of late. Here in our new part of Maine- we've been wilting under 90 degree heat- still better than the flood for sure.
Stay dry and safe :)

Now I like that bird even more! I can only imagine what that storm did to your garden, but I'm sure it was pretty bad, and I'm so sorry. I'm glad you and your family are safe. I thought of you often after that last post.

this weather has been CRAZY. we had a tornado pass over our heads (literally) but not touch down, thank goodness. fields are flooded pretty badly but ours is not a county in a state of emergency... we're really lucky. hope everything's drying out up there!

Oh Denise, I saw this on the news and thought of you and hoped you all were safe. I'm glad you are!
Dover is so sweet sitting there, bless her heart!
We had a gazebo very simular to yours and a few years ago. We came home to find it on the other side of a 6ft. wood fence, upside down!
We had it weighed down too. Crazy wind!

I don't think it's crazy to post about your small vegetable beds....sometimes the most beautiful or poignant messages can be seen most clearly in the microcosm, especially when the bigger picture is so incomprehensible to those of us not there to see it.....like Dover and her eggs; beautiful and hopeful! (both in her behavior and in yours trying to help her)

I just spoke with my sister in Michigan and they have just gotten their phone and electricity back. They were very lucky in that the tornado that passed over their house and four kids didn't touch down. Take care of yourselves......

I've been thinking about you! Hoping you're okay. I'm glad you are, but I am so saddened to hear of all this flooding in SE Minn/NE Iowa/SW Wisconsin again. I know this area so well and it's filled with wonderful farms, many organic. I am praying all will be okay!

Oh my goodness. That was one damaging storm. Glad Dover survived. Nothing like a storm like that to make us be appreciative of the simple things.

Hi Denise! I just found you from your comment on my blog. What amazing photos of some really intense weather. And how exciting to have a bird sitting on eggs right in your very own garden! My kids would LOVE this. ! Good that your kids find the storms and accompanying trips to basements/shelters, etc to be exciting...we went through a phase with my older child where any sort of storm was pretty terrifying, especially when accompanied by car sirens which were inevitably set off by the thunder/lightning. Glad to find you!

That whole post made me feel teary - for the farmers and all their hard work; for everyone touched by the crazy weather; for Dover and your wonderful bird-talking son (beautiful story) and for you and your veggie beds. Glad you are well...hope your veg are too.
