Watercolor Mobiles.

We saw some circular spinning mobiles at a restaurant over the weekend, and the boys wanted to make some. So, today we did!

We started with watercolor paper - I traced circles on the paper - 3 circles per mobile. The boys then colored designs in white oil pastels in the circles, and painted over that with watercolors.

When dry, we cut out the circles, glued the edges of all 3 together to make a 3-D shape. I used paperclips to hold them together until the glue dried. The boys punched holes in the top and threaded yarn through the holes.

Then all we had to do was hang them! G spent half the day standing on a chair so he could spin them.

The boys like their watercolor mobiles - G and his spring flowers, and A with his monsters.

I have some bird prints from a vintage book that I want to color copy and use to make bird mobiles. I think that would look nice in our craft room window.

What a great idea! While I am glad that my daughter is the age that she is, I sometimes wish that I could go back in time for a day or two, just to do little-kid projects with her. :0)

I just clicked over from one of your flickr comments...I'm a (near) Madison mom, too. :)

Did you see these at Roman Candle? I was there last Saturday with my daughter and loved the bird ones in their window...I wanted to make some, too. Yours turned out so cool.

Anyways, hi! It's fun to find another Madison blog.
