The Chickens and the Eggs.

Today we visited the farm of a friend to see the new chicks and visit the hens. The boys were in heaven - fresh air, animals, and room to roam!

A was the first to wander into the hen house and look in to discover that there were fresh eggs just sitting there ready to collect!

Once G saw them too he was soooo excited. They gathered the eggs and placed them in a bucket...

A was so excited about the fresh eggs, in fact, that he kept checking to see if the hens who were busy laying were done yet...and was so interested and excited that even the clucking of the hen that he was petting (while busily laying) didn't phase him. He said he "didn't know they needed privacy!"

Both boys were so happy - both loved stomping in the mud, seeing the new chicks, visiting the hen house, and being outside with the animals. A said he wanted to stay...forever. :) What a fun time (thanks J!).

A wants to look up the different breeds of laying hens again, so he can compare our photos to see who was what. So many beautifully feathered chickens of every color!

That does look like a fun day. I think chickens are beautiful and my daughter keeps asking if we could have some. I don't think we can have them in the city. I wish I knew of a place like you visited today.

What a fun day! Great for the kids to be able to get that experience. There's a pedagogical farm in our town that I hope to take Liam to some time soon. We're looking forward to exploring springtime on the farm and working on our French at the same time.

I am going to show this post to my hubby- he is getting closer to his dream of poultry ownership :)

X often remarks about how much she misses having chickens. When we lived in the country, we had our own egg layers. I DO miss that.

Thanks for sharing your pics.

wonderful! We have friends who just got baby chicks-- you've reminded me that we need to get over there and see them fast before they grow up!

That looks like a blast! The photos are so sweet. I especially like the quality of the first one, all those subtle brown tones and the bit of bright green boots!

I love the stone foundation of that barn, I am so into old barns! That speckled hen looks a lot like my little bantam, "Zelda".

I am always so happy when people stop by the farm with young children, they are so excited about everything. We had a 6 year old come on Saturday, he was in awe of all the poop! Cow poop, pony poop, horse poop, chicken poop, duck poop, rabbit poop......He couldn't stop talking about it, you should have seen his face when I explained that our hug compost pile was a mountain of.....POOP!

I just love it!
