weekending.

Ahhh, we are home from a staycation weekend. Having an angora rabbit, a cat and a fully loaded garden makes it tough for us to get out of town for more than a night (and we just enjoy being home). So, we like to get away to a local hotel every once in awhile - close enough to still come check often on the spunky huffy rabbit, feed the cat, and water all of the pots while we get out of the house for a few days!

The boys decided last week that we had to get away!! They looked online with me and we narrowed down the hotels and called to ask about pool temperatures. From there they wanted a 'tour' so we went to visit the top four hotel picks close to us to see the lobby, dining, and most importantly, the pool. They made their final decision on Thursday and we made a reservation for Friday.

Even though we stay only a few miles from home, it feels like a special vacation. We go out to eat, spend a lot of time in the pool, hang out in the hot tub, play board games on the bed, and watch a movie in the room.

In our few days at the hotel, A spent hours in the pool swimming and snorkeling and even started diving down to collect things on the bottom (!). G and I swam a bit and spent time in the hot tub (ahhh). Just what they wanted. Lots of fun and a nice little break.

Of course the best thing is that no matter where we go or how long we are gone, we really love coming HOME!

That really is a great idea! We have a hard time getting away for long to, because of our dog. Your home is beautiful. No wonder you love coming home!

awesome :^)

our version of the staycation is to make more of an effort to get out and hike and kayak in our own area, see some of the parks within a couple hours' drive that we haven't been to, etc.

have you ever tried priceline? we priceline'd a 4-star hotel in st. louis a couple years ago and stayed for something like 35 bucks a night, right next to the arch, really luxe - it was awesome! :^)

Lori - Oh yes, we visit state parks and hike practically every single weekend when the weather is nice - we love that too. Last summer we visited a new state park (our goal was within 1.5 hours or so of home) every weekend all fall...and this fall we have a new area we want to explore! :) can't wait for mosquito season to end so we can get back out on the trails! :)

Dawn- Oh yes, it is hard with pets. For us we can leave the cat overnight just fine, but the rabbit is a hand full and needs more constant checking, so it works great for us to get out somewhere within only a few miles from home! :)

It looks like you all had a great time and it was just what was needed to get away for a bit. We feel like we do the "staycation" thing all summer long, given our location, so it always puzzles us when people ask us when we're going away--when so many are coming here! haha. Alex and I have spent many a night or weekend out at some of the wonderful, local B&Bs and hotels. Such a great idea, Denise. As always, you're such a good mama for listening to those boys of yours. xo

Sometimes a little break is all that is needed to feel renewed! I am thinking one of the highlights of coming home from a staycation is that you do not have that ton of laundry mocking you from being gone for a lengthy vacation. Love your sofa!

What a treat to enjoy the pool and amenities without the fuss of travel!

Since we became chicken ranchers... LOL .... we've had to stick close to home on vacations so
this would be an ideal way to have some R&R, plus Owen adores swimming in heated pools :0)

Your home is gorgeous Denise. Good idea to stay near home. I like it. Sitting in the car for hours is not the most fun thing to do.

That sounds nice! A few years back we tried to visit some family over Easter weekend and the worst snow and ice storm of the year hit. Instead we drove to the edge of town and used our road trip money for hotel rooms in a really nice hotel and enjoyed the pool indoors. It was a great weekend even if we couldn't spend it with extended family...and what do ya know the Easter Bunny found us too...

I love that idea. I just might use it!

Do you mind if I ask which hotel you stayed at? Looks nice! Perhaps we will be up for a little staycation of our own! ;)
